The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory. for ever and ever. Amen

A CONDENSED HISTORY OF ST. NICHOLAS SERBIAN ORTHODOX CATHEDRAL CHOIR

The St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Cathedral Choir came into existence in 1964 under the leadership of President Jovo Borovich and the capable directorship of Slavko Zubac. The choir had a humble beginning, singing responses to the Holy Liturgy held at the Queen’s hall, a temporary home which was donated by Mrs. Milica Chelar and Mr. Marko Chelar.  The choir has continuously sang responses to the Holy Liturgy at our now, St. Nicholas Cathedral since consecration in 1965.

Slavko Zubac started a junior choir in 1968 and passed on the directorship of the senior choir to Roger Todorovic with teaching help from Peter Bila.

In 1972 the St. Nicholas Cathedral Choir's current directress Protinica Mira Stojsavljevic arrived.  Mira's dedication to the choir has lasted over 3 decades and continues to this day.

The St. Nicholas Cathedral choir holds annual concerts where we host choirs from other Serbian Church communities. We often represent our community by singing events hosted by other communities.  The St. Nicholas Cathedral Choir continues to uphold the SSF mission to help perpetuate and promote the cultural, liturgical and ethnic music of our Serbian forefathers.

COUNTDOWN TO THE ST. NICHOLAS CHOIR'S 50th ANNIVERSARYe="font-size: 9pt">COUNTDOWN TO THE ST. NICHOLAS CHOIR'S 50th ANNIVERSARY

The weekend of November 1, 2014 marks a very special time in our community.  Our beloved church choir, the St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Cathedral Choir, will be celebrating its 50th anniversary.  God willing, our honoured singing guests for this weekend will be the St. George Serbian Orthodox Church Choir from Kansas City, Kansas.  Despite being over a year and a half from now, planning for this momentous occasion has already begun.  It will be wonderful, for example, if as many of our past members as possible could join us on stage for at least one song.  Imagine the glorious sound of a 300+ voice choir!

It’s hard to believe that it has been 50 years since the choir’s humble but enthusiastic beginnings.  The choir came into existence in 1964 under the leadership of President +Jovo Borovich and the capable directorship of +Slavko Zubac. In 1968 Slavko passed the directorship to +Roger Todorovic and +Peter Bila.  Since 1972, our choir has been under the direction of our beloved Protinica Mira Stojsavljevic. Mira's dedication to the choir has lasted 4 decades and continues to this day. In recognition of her service to her choir and community, the Serbian Singing Federation (SSF) awarded Protinica Mira with prestigious +Adam Popovich at the SSF festival in 2011.

Initially, the choir sang responses to the Holy Liturgy held at the Queen’s hall, a temporary home which was donated by the Chelar family.  The choir has continuously sung responses at the St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Cathedral since the Cathedral’s consecration in 1965.  The sound of our choir has also helped to enrich many joyous occasions such as weddings and slavas.  We have also supported families in our community as they grieved the loss of a beloved friend or family member.

Please Anniversary an event to remember for the next 50 years.  Your support, participation and ideas are greatly appreciated.
